For the #Participate project we are looking for language buddies for residents of the Almelo asylum seekers' center. To speak Dutch, do homework together, go to the market or take a walk. You can agree together how often you will meet and for how long. You will work together for a few hours a week to practice the Dutch language in a practical way. This can be at home, in the library, but also at the market or during a walk. The interpretation is entirely up to you. This not only improves Dutch, but also increases the self-reliance of the residents.

For a friendly couple we are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer who wants to do a job every now and then. Think for example of repairing a screen door or attaching blinds. But also getting stuff from upstairs to downstairs. Due to health problems of both, the gentleman and lady are limited in what they can do and a helping hand every now and then would be very nice.
The lady is looking for someone who wants to do the shopping for her. She lives in a small apartment in the centre of Almelo. She has difficulty walking and therefore shopping takes a lot of effort. She now walks to the Plus with her bike, after shopping she puts the groceries in her bike bags and walks back like that… She is often alone. The lady does not have to go to the supermarket (preferably Plus). The lady makes a shopping list and has cash.
A gentleman of 90+ would like to have a chat with (man or woman, it doesn't matter to the gentleman) who regularly visits the gentleman to have a chat. The gentleman has broad interests, including domestic and foreign politics, national and local news. He reads the Tubantia every day. He solves puzzles, takes care of the household. The gentleman used to have a vegetable garden, was always active. He still tries to do the latter as much as possible, but then indoors, for example by training on the exercise bike every day
For the Seniors Advice Team, we are still looking for team members with an affinity with administration who enjoy helping the elderly get their finances/administration in order. Many elderly people still live happily on their own, but sometimes have difficulty keeping their administration in order or do not understand how modern digital ways work. By helping them with this you increase their independence and happiness in life. After a period of training and coaching, you will have your own group of participants who you support regularly. You decide how large the group of participants will be. Of course you can fall back on the team for questions and/or coaching. It is important that you have an affinity with administration or experience in preparing tax returns for others.
Every year, the people of the Senior Advisory Team help a large group of elderly people with their tax returns. For many elderly people, filing tax returns is very complicated or stressful. By supporting them in this, we increase their enjoyment of life and ensure that these people can continue to live independently for longer and happier. Volunteer coaches wanted! Do you want to be that support for someone else? Personal Coaches are volunteers who stand next to someone who could temporarily use some extra support and challenge. Are you a good listener? Do you want to help people without taking over? Then becoming a Personal Coach is something for you! Help from a Personal Coach is intended for everyone from the municipality of Almelo aged 18 and over, who could temporarily use some extra support and challenge for everyday problems. Think of situations in which someone has lost control. Personal Coaches help by thinking along, making plans together and encouraging them to take steps. Who can become a Personal Coach? We are looking for men and women who want to volunteer to help people who could use some support. Helping people to solve their own problems. As a Personal Coach, you are regularly available to go through a process with a resident. A coaching process requires 1.5 to 2 hours every two weeks for 1 to 6 months. This can be extended by 3 months if necessary. We regularly hold training sessions to familiarize ourselves with the coaching methodology. Coaches then meet regularly to exchange experiences. If you would like to come and experience the atmosphere first, you can do so every 1st Friday afternoon of the month in the De Schelf community centre from 4 p.m. in our Meeting Cafรฉ. People who are grieving are going through a difficult time. Then it can be nice to have a chat with someone. That is why volunteers are present at 't Groenedael cemetery in Almelo during several half days a week. For a conversation, or just a cup of coffee. Because there is a need for more parts of the day where a listening ear is available, the project is looking for more volunteers. Working hours are from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, every day of the week. 1 or more days are negotiable and possible. Continuity is important for the resident, so preferably on fixed mornings/days. Now she is in 4 Havo and can use some extra support again. She is looking for an online TOMaatje who wants to help her successfully complete high school. Do you want to help someone realize her potential? We are looking for a volunteer for Shahed who: - Want to teach online once a week. - Has a good command of the Dutch language. - Is not afraid of the upper secondary school material to ensure that you can make good agreements.
