Photo club for deaf people?
I would like to share my passion for photography.
Jan has a passion for photography. He is an amateur photographer at a professional level and has his own photo studio at the Achtzaadheden in Almelo. He is currently training at the Photo Academy and in the past Jan set up the photo group Windmolenbroek.
Through the newspaper Jan came into contact with the platform Almelovoorelkaar and placed his offer. 'I would like to share my knowledge and contribute to society, I don't just live for myself'.
A physiotherapist, who supports deaf people, responded to Jan's offer via Almelovoorelkaar. Mrs. wanted to do something with photography and through an introductory meeting with the physiotherapist, Mrs and Jan, the match was created.
They met a few times in the photo studio with the support of a sign language interpreter.
Jan has already introduced her to photography, explained about the camera and told about exposure, composition and aperture.
Mrs. has some affinity with photography and 'she enjoys it, I notice that!'
Now that personal contact is not possible due to corona, Jan has contact via email because calling is not possible. He gift tips, ideas and assignments. He waits for the results and gives her feedback.
I have become aware that this group is isolated.
Because of Mrs.'s hearing impairment, Jan is very concerned with how he comes across. 'How do I communicate? Is it okay? Am I clear? It makes me aware that deaf people are quite isolated and excluded from what happens in society. How do I connect with someone who shows emotions in a different way? Someone who is deaf is more focused on body language, the atmosphere that surrounds a person. It is important to build a relationship of trust.'
There is no photo club for deaf people.
Jan would like the group to grow!
People with a hearing impairment and an interest in photography can report to Jan. The interpreter is already here! You don't need an expensive camera, a smartphone is also sufficient.

Matchmaker Stella When you call almelovoorelkaar you might just get Stella on the line. As a mediation consultant she matches people who have a question or want to help. And she does so with great enthusiasm, “I think this is a wonderful job. When I have been able to help someone and get a smile back, my day is good again”. Almost two years ago, after a busy commercial job and a burnout, Stella was sitting at home with the question 'What do I want to do?'. Something with people was the answer. She found a vacancy for a mediation consultant at almelovoorelkaar and started working for three hours a week. In the beginning it was quite exciting, but she soon noticed that this suited her well. “I love building bridges between people. Every time it is tailor-made and I try to make the assessment with everyone 'Who are you and what can I really make you happy with?' She now does this three mornings a week and can no longer imagine her time without almelovoorelkaar. I love building bridges between people A while back, for example, she had a question from a gentleman who had moved to Almelo, but was homesick for Drenthe and wanted to go back to visit certain places. “I dug hard into my memory at the time to see if I knew anyone else and how I could best articulate this on our platform. Finally someone who was originally from there came forward. Those two found each other and set out together.” And aftercare is also considered. “Afterwards I often give a call to hear how it went, whether it clicked and whether I can already close the question or have to look further.” In addition to the mediation that Stella does, it is also possible for everyone in Almelo to request or offer help themselves via almelovoorelkaar. Stella is regularly asked whether such a platform works. “Now I happen to be quite fond of numbers and last year only 2% of the questions were not answered. Not that all those other people are completely matched, but that there is so much interaction on the platform that makes me proud. So it really works.” Finally, Stella likes to make an appeal: “We have a wonderful platform, take a quick look, because there you will find such great things to do. And if it doesn't work, call or email us and we'll take a look with you. You can and always ask! I can't promise it will always work, but we'll do our very best.” For corona she worked from the library with her colleagues Crista, Annemarie and Dick. Back then, people just walked in to look at vacancies. They regularly sat down for a cup of tea and a nice chat about what they were looking for. “When we switched to working from home, I initially missed contact and seeing, for example, body language.
