Coffee lady at the ZGT
For Bianca, the circle is complete. She does volunteer work at the ZGT Almelo.
I've wanted to volunteer for a while, but I always didn't know what I wanted to do and what would suit me. Several years ago my father became ill. As a result, he was often in hospital and if not, he had the necessary appointments with the specialists. I was the point of contact and supported my father throughout his entire illness process. Over time, the hospital became a kind of second home for me.
Last year I spoke to a friend about volunteering. I was completely disapproved and wanted to feel useful again. The bit of loss you have when you can no longer participate in the labor market is quite difficult. So my friend said, "The hospital then?" I then inquired at the ZGT and then the ball started rolling. I now help out as a coffee lady in the Cardiology department. At first I thought, 'Coffee lady? This really doesn't suit me!'. But I'm glad I gave it a chance.
So much is happening in this place and I can really be of meaning
I am in a place where I can cheer up patients, where I can offer a listening ear and where I feel at home because of the past. Previously I was on the side of my father who was a patient, now I can be there for the patients. It is very rewarding work and the colleagues are wonderful.
Secretly I sometimes think that my father sent me here, this volunteer work suits me so well! The circle is now complete.
Sam makes an impact
Sam makes an impact Little effort, big fun Sam was already familiar with volunteering. He has been active as a buddy through Humanitas Tandem for 1.5 years. Once a week he met a boy to do something fun or just to chat. 'It is important to be a listening ear, a helping hand, that can do a lot.' This boy wanted to be more confident and stronger in his shoes. This process has been concluded positively, partly due to a lot of encouragement from Sam. Sam wants to do his part. He thinks Almelovoorelkaar is a great initiative, the demand for help and the offer of help are easily brought together. He therefore placed his offer of help and was very curious about the reactions he received. I have time to spare, in the evenings on the weekend. Why not use this time to help someone else? He soon received a response from a gentleman who wanted his scooter cleaned. Sam went by to get acquainted and it turned out that he also had some questions about his computer. We clicked well and at a later time Sam went to Mr. together with his girlfriend to give the scooter a good cleaning. Another response Sam got was from a helper who was looking for someone to walk his service dog. Mister has a Congenital Brain Injury (NAH), which means that it is difficult for him to walk the dog during cold days because he then experiences a lot of pain. Sam now walks his dog two nights a week. "That's good because I'm a dog lover." Sam is trying to see if language buddy is something for him. Soon another training will start via the Taalpunt. 'I choose what suits me'. Doing volunteer work makes Sam feel fulfilled. 'It is often a very small effort to help someone who needs it. It's not difficult and it doesn't take much time either. Just help each other. I find my work as an IT professional challenging, I can learn a lot from it and I enjoy doing it. Volunteering gives me personal satisfaction.' Even if you do something very small, just help each other. It also benefits yourself. You go home with a satisfied feeling. Share these stories and inspire others to help too!
